How to Style Short Layered Hair

Women today primarily look for versatility in their hairstyles. Whether it is long, medium, or short, every style needs to offer multiple options. Otherwise, the wearer will soon tire of the "do" and move on to something else as quickly as possible. While some women equate short hair to stagnation, that really doesn't need to be the case. Just like any other type of cut and style, short hair can still offer versatility. Additionally, it has its own special kind of beauty.

Instructions

Use a volumizing styling mousse and blow dry the hair with a medium sized round brush. Follow-up by turning the head upside down and spraying the hair with a good volume hairspray. Flip the head back forward and pick or lift the hair into place with the end of a rat tail comb. Back comb any areas that still refuse to offer the body desired. Once the style is perfected, spray it again with a lightweight volume spray.

Choose a good quality shine-enhanced styling gel to slick the hair back away from the face. If desired, pull a few strands in front of the ear and/or accross the forehead in a spit curl style.

Utilize a heavy duty styling gel to spike the hair in a funky, punk rock style. If desired, add a bit of color to the ends with the spray on hair color of your choice. Spray heavily with hairspray to keep the spikes in place.

Experiment with styling lotions to incorporate sexy finger waves in the top front and lower back of the hair. Purchase a few finger wave clips that can be purchased at most beauty supply houses. It is also possible to set the finger waves yourself with the right heavy duty styling product. Once you get the style desired, spray it into place.

Pin curl the hair in large sections to give it a natural, yet light, curly look. After pulling out the hairpins, shake the head vigorously while turned upside down. Work the curls through with the fingers. Turn back right side up and do the same on the top. If the hair is too curly, use a pick or the end of a rat tail comb to loosen them up even more. Once the look desired is obtained, use hairspray to set the style.

Flip the hair up at the ends using a small round brush during the hair drying process. Push the front section of the hair behind the ears and back comb the top for a little bit of volume. Spray everything into place with a medium weight hairspray.

Back comb the hair heavily for a "big" hair look, spray individual sections of the hair as they are put into place.

Brush the sides of the hair back on each side to meet in the center back of the hair to get what used to be called a "ducktail" look. Spray the hair into place with heavy duty hair spray. Brush the front of the hair to one side and spray it into place as well.
