Hairstyles can tend to get boring. You may cut all your hair off, grow it long or try different styles and colors, but still want something different. Instead of sticking with the same old hairstyle, try something different and unique. Stranding and twisting hair is a technique used by both men and women to add a different texture and look to their hairdo. Give your hair new life in twists, or use this hairstyle as an alternative to braids.

Instructions

    1

Wash your hair as normal with shampoo and conditioner. When you're finished, towel-dry your hair until it is only slightly damp.

    2

Divide the bottom half of your hair. Use a rat tail comb to make a horizontal part through the bottom of your hair (about one inch from the start of your hairline, just above your neck). Secure the top portion of your hair with a hair clip.

    3

Make a vertical part in your hair starting one inch from the right side of your hairline. Secure the hair to the left of the part with a hair clip.

    4

Spray the first section of hair with water from the water bottle. You do not want to over-saturate your hair; just wet your hair enough so that it is damp. For men or women with thicker and/or curly hair, use pomade through the section to make the hair easier to twist.

    5

Use the rat tail comb to section off two smaller (but equal) strands of hair from the section made in Steps 2 and 3.

    6

Twist the two strands of hair together (with the left side repeatedly being pulled over the right side) until the section is completely twisted together. For fine hair, use a small, clear hair tie to keep the hair place. Men and women with thick and/or curly hair do not need a hair tie. Continue repeating Steps 5 and 6 until you have approximately five twists in the bottom row of your hair.

    7

Remove the hair clip holding the top portion of hair gathered from Step 2. Use your comb to create another horizontal part, separating a small section of hair from the rest of the top portion of hair. Secure the top portion of your hair with a hair clip.

    8

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 with this second row of hair. When you're finished with the second row, create a new row. Do this until the entire back side of your head is in twists.

    9

Create a part on the right side of your head. Section the hair on the right side of the part into smaller strands. Just like with the back of your head, twist two of the strands together to create the twist look. Continue twisting the small strands together until that row of hair is twisted.

    10

Create another part just to the left of the finished row of twists. Repeat Step 9 to strand and twist the hair together. When you're finished with the second row, create a third part, sectioning and twisting the hair within that row. Do this until you've reached the middle of your head.

    11

Start working on the left side of your head. Following the same pattern as in Steps 9 and 10, begin stranding and twisting the hair on the far left side of your head. Continue parting the hair to create rows, stranding the smaller sections of hair and twisting them together until you've reached the middle of your head.

    12

Add shine to your hair by spraying the twists with a hair serum spray. This is especially helpful for those with thick or curly hair.
