How to Make Hairstyles From 1940s

The 1940s--a time when the hairstyles of the day were long, sleek and elegant. During this time, many women copied the Veronica Lake peek-a-boo look, long, sultry tresses with bangs that covered one eye. This was also the decade of the Second World War and women entered the factories on the Home Front. Having long hair was a safety issue in the factories. In fact, according to Patricia Baker in Fashions of a Decade: The 1940s, "Women were urged to have their hair cut short in the new Vingle (a close-cropped hairstyle), the Victory Roll or the Liberty Cut, which needed to be cut only once every three months."

Instructions

Cut hair to an above-the-shoulder length, if necessary.

Shampoo, condition and towel-dry the hair.

Take a comb and part the wet hair into sections forming four Vs.

Wrap strands of hair around your fingertips to make pin curls. Use bobby pins to hold the curls in place. Do this around the top and sides of your head.

Dry the hair.

Remove the bobby pins and style.

Wet your hair.

Part sections of your wet hair away from your face.

Make pin curls by wrapping pieces of your hair around your fingertips. Use bobby pins to hold your hair in place. Repeat this step as often as necessary.

Dry your hair.

Remove the bobby pins. Brush your hair in an up do position

Pin the hair at the top of your head in rolls. Decide how thick or thin you want the rolls.
