How to Use Hair Gel for Texture

Hair gel is a styling product used to texturize the hair. Using gel on wet hair will allow you to "scrunch" longer hair to give it a wavy look; using gel on dry hair will allow you to mold your hair. Either way the gel is used, it will offer substantial hold to your hair, enabling the style to last almost all day. Like most hair-styling products, however, you never want to use too much. Too much hair gel will make your hair look greasy, stiff and unnatural.

Instructions

Add a dime-sized drop of hair gel to your hand.

Rub the hair gel between your hands and apply the gel to damp (not soaking wet) hair. Focus the majority of the gel on the tresses and ends of your hairtoo much gel near the roots will make your hair look greasy.

Apply heat from your hair dryer to your hair. While blowing your hair dry with the dryer in one hand, scrunch up your hair with the other hand.

Continue this process until all of your hair is dry. When you're finished, your hair will be textured and wavy. No need for any hairspraythe gel will hold the style.

Allow your hair to air-dry until it's just slightly damp.

Add a dime-sized drop of hair gel to your hand; rub your hands together to spread the gel out.

Run your fingers through your hair, starting at the front and working back.

Pull up on the front portion of your hair (at the forehead) with your fingers to give your hair an elevated look. Use a bristled brush to brush back that portion of hair so it doesn't look stringy.

Sweep all of your hair back by using all of your fingers. Start at the hairline and run your fingers through your hair all the way to the ends. This will keep your hair back and off of your face if your hair is longer.
