How to Use Electric Rollers

Electric rollers are cylinder-shaped individual curlers that are heated electrically from a base unit. Once hot, the rollers are placed in the hair to create waves or curls. Hair should be completely dry before using electric rollers, as damp or wet hair will not hold a curl and the steam created by the heat and the damp hair may cause the hair shaft to swell and cause damage to the hair. Prepare hair with a small amount of styling cream before use.

Instructions

    1

Plug the base heating unit into an electrical source using the electrical cord. Wait for the rollers to finish heating before use. Most electric rollers have an indicator light that either holds steady or turns off when the rollers are ready for use.

    2

Brush out hair and use a comb to create sections of hair that are small to medium size.

    3

Create curls or waves around the face and the top layers of hair using the smaller rollers. The larger rollers are good for the back of the hair and creating large, loose waves or curls.

    4

Wrap hair all the way around the roller starting with the end of the hair section. Clip to hold in place. Roll the curlers vertically for waves or ringlet curls or horizontally for traditional curls.

    5

Curl all of the hair around the head using the rollers. Leave curlers in for 10 to 15 minutes.

    6

Unroll the hair from the rollers and return the rollers to the base unit. Let curls cool completely before gently shaking the curls out with your fingers. Spray with hairspray, if desired.
