Long Summer Hairstyles for Girls

Many girls desire long hair, in part because it offers so many styling options. It can be worn up or down, curly or straight, dramatically altering your overall appearance. During the summer, carefree and easy to manage hairstyles are especially appealing. There are many styling options for long hair that will keep you cool, and have you looking cool.

Nothing says summer hair more than surfer girl waves. To achieve this laid back look, apply volumizing mousse or spray to damp hair. Work the product through your hair and then scrunch your hair with your hands, allowing it to air dry. This will give it some volume and texture. Once your hair is dry, create loose waves with a medium-barreled curling iron. Separate your hair in large sections and loosely wrap each section around the curling iron. Hold the sections in the iron for a few seconds--you don't want to create a curl, just a soft wave. Once you are satisfied with the amount of wave in your hair, finger comb it to loosen up the waves a little more. Finish by applying a mist of spray to your entire head. This look will give you a just-came-from-the-beach look, and can be worn for a casual afternoon or a night out.

Braids can give you a stylish look and keep you cool in the summer. For a quick and virtually effortless style, fashion an English braid. Part your hair down the center or to the side. Loosely pull your hair back into a ponytail that lies on the nape of your neck, but don't secure it. Create three sections in the ponytail. Pass the left section over the center section. The center section now becomes the center and the center section is now on the left. Repeat the same process on the right side. Continue going back and forth from the left to right in this fashion, until your hair is braided to where you would like it. Secure with a hair tie. This style can be worn for a day of running errands, or for a casual date.

A side bun is ideal for a summertime formal event. To create, start by applying mousse to damp hair and blowing dry to create volume. Once dry, part your hair to the side. Pull all of your hair into a ponytail on the side opposite the part that you created. Secure the ponytail just behind your ear. Back comb the ponytail and smooth out to add volume. Twist the ponytail, wrapping it around a hair tie until you have a bun. Use bobby pins to secure. To add interest to this style, add a large clip or flower to the side of the bun. This style will give you a romantic look while keeping you cool.
